Did we punish the wrong man and party in 2004?????

2011 was undoubtedly the year when we spoke and agitated most about a single issue that is ‘corruption’. The finale to this debate was the speech by Shri Shivanand Tiwari of Janta Dal (united) followed by the unacceptable conduct of Congress in Rajya Sabha.

The larger issue at stake is the future of this country. India has been adrift politically and economically right through this year, government neither displayed the will nor the ability to tackle and rectify the situation.

We are extremely unfortunate we do not have a Prime Minister who could rise to the occasion, take hold and say he is in charge, comparisons between the incumbent and his predecessors is a natural corollary under such circumstance.
“Seven years of talking down the economy, bullying and pressurising private enterprise, discounting India’s innate entrepreneurship and replacing it with a culture of profligate, top-down populism, and refusing to deregulate and liberalise sectors crying out for change have left the country feeling miserable. The set of factors that caused the 2002-2009 boom is exhausted. The NDA sowed, the UPA reaped. What has the UPA sowed?”  Link

“After the Lok Pal Bill fiasco in the Rajya Sabha, the cynicism about the Congress will grow. Frankly, the party broke all norms of propriety by not allowing the vote. You cannot govern when your credibility is low. I think the Congress has convinced itself that in the electoral arithmetic, all it needs to do is to show that it is marginally better than the BJP, but that is still not good enough for the country.”  Link

Between 1998 - 2002, NDA added 27,00,000 jobs in Small scale industry alone. That's more than what Sonia & MMS added across ALL industries in 7 yrs!

Few know that 2002 was the worst drought in India in 21st century. The way Vajpayee & Advani handled it made it seem like a regular year!

Vajpayee's BJP govt started the world's largest food security program Antyodaya Anna Yojana. Rice Rs2/kg & wheat Rs.3/kg for 10 cr people!

It was the BJP govt of Vajpayee, that setup Rs.1Crore award for DRDO scientists and technicians. Congress neglected them for 50 years.

When Vajpayee took over as PM, Phone STD rates were Rs.24 per minute. When he stepped down, it was Rs.5 per min. Incredible work done.

During 5 decades of mostly Congress rule, 6 lakh villages in India had a measly 36 lakh phones in total. BJP govt tripled it in just 1 term.

The length of optical fibre, key for IT revolution, was only 0.65 lakh km in 1999. BJP govt increased the length by a whopping 650% in 4 yrs!

Few people know that India's hardware exports registered a whopping 192% increase during just 1 term of Vajpayee govt. Employment generator.

Sher Shah Suri died in 1545. It took an Atal Bihari Vajpayee, 454 years later, to start India's next big road construction project. 2-Jan-99

During 50yrs of Congress rule, India built 556 KM of 4/6 lane highways, at 11 KM per YEAR. Vajpayee/Advani built 25,000 KM at 11 KM per DAY!

Just the Golden Quadrilateral that Vajpayee govt built would save Rs.8000 crore of fuel consumption in India, EACH year. Massive oil saving.

he 60,000cr Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna that BJP govt launched in 2000,was the largest rural infrastructure program in India's history!

Congress guys might not tell you.. 1,86,000 villages in India had NO road connectivity after 50+yrs of dynasty rule. Vajpayee changed it.

Vajpayee's plans to link major rivers to solve drought & flood problem & Rs.1 lakh cr 'Sagar Mala' to set new ports were scrapped by UPA :(

It was Vajpayee govt that approved new airports in Bengaluru & Hyderabad (yes, RG). They also approved Mumbai & Delhi airport modernization.

When Vajpayee took power, the wait time for a new LPG connection was 4-5 years. By the time he quit, it was less than 4 DAYS of wait!

India had 3.37 crore gas connections during the first 40 YEARS of LPG system. BJP govt issued 3.92crore new gas connections in just 4 years!

It was Vajpayee and Advani govt that installed the world's largest solar cooking system at Tirupati temple, serving 15,000 meals at a time!

During Vajpayee's rule, every major public sector unit made profit. SAIL, NMDC, BRL, MOIL, Visakhapatnam Steel kind. Most made losses earlier

Turnover of all PSUs of India, increased by a superlative 48% during the first two years of Vajpayee's PMship. Speaks volume about ability!

It was Vajpayee's BJP government that enacted the mother of all constitutional amendments. Free and Compulsory education to 6-14 age group.

Housing and Urban Dev Corp Limited sanctioned 65 lakh units between 1970 and 1998. BJP govt sanctioned 73 lakh units in just 6 years. #House

The number of Engineering seats in India increased from 1,34,298 to 3,56,268 during Vajpayee's one term. A phenomenal 165% increase!

Most 'secular' media would never highlight. BJP government under Vajpayee & Advani increased Urdu promotional activities by 10 Times!

Vajpayee extended Integrated Child Dev Services (ICDS) to all 5652 blocks of India. Employed 1million Anganwadi workers World's largest in size!

Rahul Gandhi might do stunts, but it was Vajpayee who seriously worked towards Tribal welfare. Setup India's first Tribal Affairs ministry.

For 50 years Gandhi dynasty gave lip service to India's poorer North East. It was Vajpayee's BJP govt that setup a NEW dept for development of NE

Twenty to twenty-five years ago, even 10 years ago, few of us had heard of Information Technology. Today, exports from this industry are worth $10 billion — that is, over Rs 45,000 crore a year. That figure is 20 per cent of our total exports.  { Link }

Mananiya Atal Bihari Vajpayee's historical speech during confidence motion in parliament on 27th May 1996 after his 13 days government.

Political energy and expansion made BJP the single-largest political party in the Lok Sabha elected in 1996. Asked to form the government, Shri Vajpayee was sworn in as Prime Minister, but the unfortunately BJP failed to gather enough support from other parties to form a majority. Then Shri Vajpayee resigned after 13 days, when it became clear that it was impossible to gather support of majority.

What does Congress lead UPA government have to offer as a comparative to the above stated achievements of previous BJP lead NDA government? All those who would like to challenge the stated facts are welcome to place on record facts and figures please do refrain from rhetorical statements and futuristic claims.

“Somehow, this idea makes our policy makers uncomfortable. People in government are much happier when they appear to be “doing things themselves” rather than “letting things happen”. After all, they argue, what is the government for if not to look after the poor? However, the question is what role the government chooses in “looking after” people. A direct-subsidy-oriented approach that seeks to feed “those hungry mouths” is a form of neo-colonialism, which will only seek to cripple our poor and ensure that they remain poor for generations. An intensive rural infrastructure-building approach through their participation can achieve, in some measure, what the food security bill never can to remove poverty.”  Link

“Since the total subsidy paid by the finance ministry on food was Rs 59,621 crore in 2009-10, and nearly half of it went to the wrong persons, the loss due to corruption is really Rs 28,774 crore – calculated proportionately from the amount of subsidised grain supplied to the PDS system, and the amount that actually went to the intended beneficiaries, according to the National Sample Survey.”  Link

The UPA government on Monday admitted before the Supreme Court that the NDA regime, in five years, constructed nearly half the total length of national highways laid during the last 32 years. However, the affidavit revealed that during 1997-2002 (ninth five-year plan), when the NDA was in power, 23,814 km of national highways was added to the existing NH network, or nearly 50% of the total length of national highways constructed in three decades. This remains the largest construction of national highways during any five-year period since independence.

“Language has exhausted itself in describing the year gone by. Every bleak and hopeless analogy has been used: annus horribilis, the year of the scam, the year of the corrupt, the year of nemesis, etc. The ancient Maya civilisation has left for us a blood curdling prophesy, the world will come to an end in December 2012. This may not be true, but the Congress government, submerged in filth, without anyone with inclination, much less courage, to redeem or purify the party is certainly going to end. Anna Hazare may be exhausted or ambivalent, but the people have grasped the truth that their destitution is the direct result of the dacoities perpetrated over the years on their sparse assets.” Link

“UPA-1 will be remembered for two things: the nuke deal, and social sector spending — including the farm loan waiver and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). UPA-2 will be remembered for scams, and possibly the Food Security Bill — the NREGA equivalent which is seen as a vote-winner. But, as always, what looks like an achievement seldom remains one when seen from a long-term perspective. The nuke deal has not brought India any closer to energy security. It has only brought us more protests and public angst: at Kudankulam and Jaitapur.” Link

I welcome a debate and discussion on this…As always, please keep your tone civil, your language polite…no sweeping generalisations please and no personal abuse.  Thank you.
